Trends in flooring are changing. A high gloss finish is now moving to an ultra matte finish, dark colors are going lighter and widths in boards are getting wider. Hardwood is always a high end finish recommend in your home, however, Luxury Vinyl plank is all the rage lately. Due to it’s high durability and lower cost LVP is an increasingly popular design choice. This product impersonates the look of hardwood but is better quality than it’s cousin Laminate flooring. Many people are choosing this for basements, rental suites and high traffic areas. It’s definitely a trend on the rise.

Traditional hardwood installation has a new update as well, we are seeing more Herringbone and Chevron patterns put in entrance ways, hallways and even entire homes. It’s a peak to peak pattern and is a stunning feature in your home. This can be installed in hardwood, engineered or Luxury Vinyl plank. Also a trend to watch is using hardwood as an accent wall. We have put wood on feature walls in bedrooms and living rooms giving the room a warm inviting feel.

Colors are trending from dark to lighter shades and greys and browns are very popular. You may want to look into a wire brushed finish or hand scraped finish if your design goal is a rustic, chalet or beach effect. The newest finish of ultra matte is being installed in almost all new homes. It’s contemporary, clean, classic and hides the dirt much more than a glossy or semi gloss finish. This is an update that can be achieved after sanding and refinishing your original hardwood.

Whatever your design choice is we recommend doing your research in the look you want to achieve, purchasing from a reputable distributor and have a professional installer complete your dream design.
